Gap Analysis is the process of combining the
stewardship dataset with the land cover or habitat models to
identify the representation of protection of these biodiversity
elements. In
this
example we combine the gap status data layer (Figure 1)
with the
predicted habitat of the blue grouse (Figure 2)
We consider the gap status
lands labeled as 1 and 2 as the most protected. The
combination of these datasets yields Figure 3. The areas
shaded as green are those lands considered most protected (Status 1
and 2 Lands). The
area shaded as red are those areas that have predicted blue grouse
habitat but don't occur on these Status 1 and 2 lands. Those areas
areas
shaded as blue are those most protect lands with predicted blue
grouse habitat.
