Background

The
Gap Analysis Program (GAP) provides regional assessments of the
conservation status of native vertebrate species and natural land
cover types to facilitate the application of this information to
land management activities. |

The
project area includes approximately 530,415 sq. mi. (339,465,600 acres).
Forest Service lands encompass approximately 14% of this area;
BLM lands encompass approximately 31%. |

total non in-kind cost is estimated at $4,923,149 and translates to
roughly 0.015 cents/acre. |
|
|
The final SWReGAP
report is undergoing peer review Provisional data sets have
been available since October 2005. |

1998 First organizational workshops held 1999 Initial funds distributed. Regional and State Coordinators hired 2000-2003 Landsat imagery acquired. Land cover mapping and animal modeling underway 2004 Land cover mapping and stewardship completed 2005 Animal habitat modeling completed;
Analysis completed; and data published2006 reports written
